What does your job entail here at F. A. Davis? I find and sign authors, so I have to know the markets that I cover; I have to try to find people to write books that are needed by the market, and then I guide them through the whole process.
What’s your favorite part of your job? Meeting so many people from all around the world. I know people from Australia to England to the Netherlands and from one side of this country to the other, including Hawaii, so it’s very interesting.
How did you get the job at F. A. Davis? I’ve been in publishing for a long time. I started off at Weekly Reader and I wound up coming down to Springhouse and working for Springhouse for a number of years. Then a job opened up here, and for some reason they hired me.
What is your favorite part about the company? I love that it’s a small company and has such a strong family atmosphere. The whole atmosphere, it’s really very comfortable.
What made you want to work at F. A. Davis? I think the challenge of a new type of editorial work that I hadn’t done before, a new type of publishing. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it but I do.
Do you have a favorite product? I really like so many of the books, but I would probably have to say PMA (Professional Medical Assistant), which is a core textbook for medical assistants. But I also have to say it’s not so much the products as it is the authors, because you end up managing authors in this positon, and you end up having favorite authors. I love all of things that I’ve been able to publish, but the authors are something special.
Do you have a motto? I say all the time, like Nike, “Just do it.” But the main motto I guess I’ve had my whole life is, “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.”
What is your favorite animal? I love the owl.
Who would play you in a movie about your life? Richard Dreyfuss
Do you have any hidden talents? I don’t know if it’s hidden, but I’ve acted on stage for many years. A lot of people know about that, but I would say it’d probably be the acting and singing that most people don’t know about me.
